MST3K FANS REJOICE!

Fans have waited for the news to release about the long awaited reboot of Mystery Science Theater 3000 and when it would return. Since July, we’ve watched the best of the best tease us about the upcoming reboot, getting the best kind of cast for it and now… we finally have a date. Mystery Science Theater 3000 will be premiering on Netflix April 14!

If you’re not familiar with Mystery Science Theater 3000, what have you been doing with yourself?! The premise is pretty damned cool. Created by Joel Hodgson, In the “not too distant future”, a janitor is hauled into space by two mad scientists. They force him to watch b-movies (like horrifically terrible b-movies) so they can form their plans of taking over the world, but the janitor almost has a bit of a crack in his sanity. Watching a mess of terrible movies can take its toll on a person. So, to keep himself in check and gain some companionship, he builds Tom Servo and Crow, two robots who sit with him and shade the movie just as much as he does. Later, he builds Gypsy as well.

The episodes feature a heavily and highly classic terrible movie while Tom, Crow and, the respective host at the time, riff the movie with their own terrible puns and comments. It’s the ultimate form of amazing movie watching. The show became a great cult classic, earning spin offs including Rifftrax, The Film Crew and Cinematic Titanic in it’s wake, but nothing compares to Mystery Science Theater 3000.

I have no doubt in my mind that the new show will keep up with the terrible b-movies, the hilarious banter and glorious riffs that bring the show into a new age while keeping with the brilliance of the original. The new cast is AMAZING. Our new janitor sent into space will be Jonah Ray. You may know him from the Nerdist podcast or, his hilarious episodes of Drunk History (Comedy Central). Geek queen of all of our hearts, Felicia Day will play Kinga Forrester, daughter of the mad scientist Dr. Clayton Forrester. and Patton Oswalt will play TV’s Son of TV’s Frank, her henchman. Also joining the cast will be Hampton Yount and Baron Vaughn, the new voices for Crow T. Robot and Tom Servo.

Now, it’s time to sit back until we get a little teaser trailer of the awesome that will be this new reboot. Hurry up Netflix, we’ve waited long enough!
