It looks like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild isn’t the only thing that Nintendo is looking to break the mould with. Mario could soon be looking at a similar shake up to what players have come to expect.

Miyamoto has been quoted in saying:

“We’re always challenging ourselves to create something new, so hopefully you’ll see a new kind of Mario in about a year or two.”

There’s been challenges though. Tweaking the Mario formula of approachability and accessibility is different than tweaking Zelda’s formula because of how wide an audience Mario games reach. Miyamoto has noted that having new people join Nintendo has allowed them to look at the conventions with fresh eyes.

“Maybe next E3 we’ll be able to share something.”

We can only hope there’s just as many cats in the new formula as they’ve been in Super Mario 3D World and Mario Maker.

I read, I write, I play videogames, Ghostbusters is my favourite thing in the known universe, but quasars come in at a close second. I've been known to cry at the drop of a hat over happy and sad things alike. I've also been known to fly into a rage if things don't go my way, leading to many a fight in high school and breaking someone's nose on the TTC one time. I'm an anxious introvert but also a loud-mouthed bad influence. Especially on my cat. He learned it from watching me, okay!
