WRESTLEMANIA 34 PREDICTIONS

Here we are. The Grand Daddy of them all. The Showcase of Champions. The largest and most anticipated PPV of them all. WrestleMania.

Every year the WWE tries to build all their storylines to build up to WrestleMania and create an event that year-long fans and lapsed fans alike can enjoy. Sometimes those plans work well, other times injuries and contract disputes cause the best-laid plans to come crashing down.

This year is one of the most anticipated WrestleMania’s in a couple of years. Every title is on the line, and the non-title matches all have intriguing and well laid out storylines. While the WWE has not released the order of the matches, they have announced which matches will be on the pre-show versus the regular show.

As a reminder, I have no previous knowledge or inside information that would help with the predictions. Instead, they are ones that come from the recesses of my mind and what would happen if the WWE would ever put me on the booking committee.

So, without any further delay, let’s get onto the predictions:

PRE-SHOW

Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal

The WWE has only announced 10 or so of the participants of the Battle Royal. It is obvious that there will be anywhere to 10 to 15 more wrestlers added. Among them from the main roster could be Bray Wyatt, Jeff Hardy, Elias, Big Show, in addition to much of the Tag Team Division who all have no matches scheduled.

A few short months ago Elias seemed to be on the rise. For some reason, the company appears to have cooled on the push that he was getting. If the company plans to reinstitute the push, then it makes sense for Elias to join the Battle Royal and win. With that said, of the wrestlers who are listed in the Battle Royal Matt Hardy seems to be the most over of all the wrestlers. If they are going to continue with the Woken Matt Hardy gimmick what better way for him to “Delete” the competition than to win the Battle Royal. Look for the Woken One to be the last one standing.

Prediction: Woken Matt Hardy

Women’s Battle Royal

Much like the Men’s Battle Royal, there are only a handful of wrestlers listed for the match. Unlike the men’s Battle Royal there are some interesting storylines here that make it almost anyone’s match to win (well except Lana). Bayley and Sasha Banks do not need this win to elevate them. Truthfully, I’m surprised they are not in a one-on-one match. Look for the two of them to take each other out early in the match.

Somewhere in the match look for Absolution and The Riott Squad to team up to eliminate most of the rest of the competition before turning on each other. After the strong start of each faction each has cool a bit, so look for one of these five women to win the Battle Royal. The last few weeks it seems as if the WWE has been starting to focus on Deville. It is time for her to put her hair up and square up for a run towards one of the women’s titles.

Prediction: Sonya Deville

Cruiserweight Championship: Cedrick Alexander vs. Mustafa Ali.

All signs pointed toward Alexander taking the belt off Enzo Amore a few months ago before Amore was fired. It seems as if Ali has been gaining traction and support both from the fans. I think these two are going to remind people why they should be watching the revamped 205 Live. In the end, I believe that Cedrick Alexander takes the title that has been waiting for him for the last few months

Prediction: Cedrick Alexander

MAIN SHOW

As I have said before, the lineup is stacked for this years WrestleMania. With a fast-paced match right before during the Pre-Show, the WWE is in a tough spot. You need a match that will get the fans invested early, but at the same time you risk a let down from the Cruiserweight Title Match

Smackdown Tag Team Championship: The Usos vs. The New Day vs. The Bludgeon Brothers

The Usos and New Day are both great on the mic. They will be capable to get the fans the transition to the main show while keeping them engaged. The history between the Usos and The New Day is known, as the two teams have put on some great matches over the last year. The Bludgeon Brothers have gotten over both teams of the last few weeks since interrupting the PPV match last month. With the athleticism of The Usos and the New Day versus the Power of the Bludgeon Brothers, we should see some amazing moves and storytelling throughout the match. In the end, the Usos will get the win, where they will go onto celebrate at Smackdown only to be destroyed in a beatdown by the Prophets of Pain.

Predictions: The Usos retain

Intercontinental Championship: The Miz vs. Seth Rollins vs. Finn Balor

Like him or not, the truth is The Miz is one of the best heels in the company right now. Every night he performs some of the best promos in the WWE right now. Seth Rollins and Balor have been stuck lately. Rollins has bounced around from story line to story line as people around him got hurt. Meanwhile, it seems as if creative wasn’t sure what to do with Balor. They have teased the Balor Club, with interactions here and there but no real push. It was not until he was put into this thread that we have seen a focus for Balor.

After his wife had a baby last week, The Miz seems to be a little bit more mellow in promos this past week. It makes sense for him to take a couple of weeks off so that he can spend time with his new family. It would also allow for him to focus on a possible upcoming feud with Daniel Bryan upon his return. Balor gets the most rub out of a win here and perhaps with a little help during the match we could see a try reuniting of The Balor Club.

Prediction: Finn Balor

Kurt Angle & Ronda Rousey vs. Triple H & Stephanie McMahon

Unless the WWE really decides to mess with Rousey, I do not see any way that she loses her WWE debut. Stephanie will spend much of the match trying to avoid being in the ring with Rousey. After Angle take both himself and Triple H out of the match, Rousey gets her chance. Rousey locks in the armbar and “breaks” McMahons arm for the win.

Prediction: Angle & Rousey

Smackdown Women’s Championship: Charlotte Flair vs. Asuka

Since the Women’s revolution, Charlotte has been doing a lot of the heavy lifting. She has been in the Championship picture since her call-up. Asuka, on the other hand, has helped to breathe some new life into the division with her unique style and look. The WWE has been smart in keeping the interactions between the two of them to verbal sparring leading up to the match. Both are fan favorites and possess amazing abilities within the ring. I do not see how Asuka’s streak ends here, despite how good Flair is.

Prediction: Asuka

United States Championship: Randy Orton vs. Rusev vs. Bobby Roode vs. Jinder Mahal.

Randy Orton is one of the few wrestlers that needs a title to feel like what he is doing is important. In fact, in many ways, the title seems to hinder him. Mahal after having a surprise title run has lost some of his luster. Meanwhile, Bobby Roode has not gotten over with the fans since being called up. Much of that has to do with what feels like him holding back as a face. A heel turn during the match would not be out of the question either during or after the match with Roode. The most over person in the match is Rusev. I think the WWE has been wrestling with ways to get him to turn face, and a title win here would be a great catalyst for him to make the full turn. This will just be cemented if Roode attacks him after the title win

Prediction: Rusev

Daniel Bryan & Shane McMahon vs. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn

The stipulation that Owens and Zayn are fired if they do not win makes this a hard one to predict. There is no way that the WWE had Bryan lose his return match. The fans would literally Riot and go into business for themselves if that happened. But how do they keep Zayn and Owens on the show? If they are not going to move them to Raw, which I do not think they will, then there is only one choice. Bryan and Shane win, with Shane turning on Bryan in an after match attack and rehiring Zayn and Owens on Smackdown.

Prediction: Daniel Bryan & Shane McMahon

Raw Tag Team Championship: The Bar vs. Braun Strowman & Mystery Partner

WWE can go two ways with the mystery partner. Make it a comedy and pick someone like Kurt Hawkins or go with someone like Big Show. I think the best way to go is to have the Big Show make his comeback here as the team squashes The Bar for an easy win

Prediction: Braun Strowman & The Big Show

Smackdown WWE Championship: AJ Styles vs. Shinsuke Nakamura

The two of them had a classic match at Wrestle Kingdom 10. There is nothing here that points to anything but a five-star match. Nakamura has had several near misses when it has come to winning the title. At this point If the WWE is going to put the title on Nakamura it only makes sense to do it here finally.

Prediction: Nakamura

Raw Women’s Championship Alexa Bliss vs. Nia Jax

After a storyline that had the champion making fun of Jax for her looks and body, you must give Jax the title. Putting the match here allows for the fans to catch their breath. Bliss runs from the challenger for most of this short match until Jaz gets ahold of her and wins her first title

Prediction: Nia Jax

Raw Universal Championship: Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns

Lesnar is going to be leaving the WWE soon. It has all but been officially confirmed. After the incident with Conner McGregor, the UFC is going to throw money at Lesnar to get him back. I think that Reigns will dominate most of this match. Before he gets his win, Lesnar will hit an F5 like the end of RAW this past week. This time though Reigns gets back up, and finishes Lesnar off

Prediction: Roman Reigns

And there you go, Vince gets his new face of the WWE with a Reigns win. Wait… Face of the company? So where is Cena and The Undertaker? The card is just way too stacked for them to be able to add the match at the last minute. That will not stop Cena from jumping the guardrail and calling out the Undertaker again. At that point, The Undertaker comes out, tombstones Cena in the middle of the ring and walks out. Leaving the match for a different PPV.
