Review by Josh Rose

A viking’s work is never done. Especially when aliens fall from the sky bringing weapons and tools beyond imagining. Spider King #2 continues the adventures of Hrolf Hallvardson, as he tries to restore honor to his clan. After fighting an alien suit of armour, Hrolf and his men discover a huge armoury full of alien tech. Oh, and they adopt the small alien operating the alien suit. Meanwhile Sigrid discovers her own armoury, and Aarek is tempted to let the alien infection take over rather than die.

I really enjoy the pacing of this book. Josh Vann starts off the book with a great fight and presents the characters with vital weaponry necessary to defeat the invaders. He also introduces Sigrid to the Laxdale clan, which should turn into a very interesting team up/romance. I look forward to everyone meeting the new Aarek in upcoming issues.

Simone D’Armini’s art is fantastic. Especially the stained glass looking art when Aarek is going through his back and forth with an alien taking over his body. And I love Adrian Bloch’s green fire in this book. They’re vibrant and give it that otherworldly feel. And Bloch’s colours make Aarek look absolutely menacing throughout.

The Verdict: Buy it.

For one, we finally see vikings fighting some aliens. For another, Spider King #2 is only a teaser sample of what’s to come! Stakes in this world of vikings are going one way: UP!
