Oh S#!t It’s Kim & Kim #1 continues the story of the Fighting Kims as they take they attempt to go out and earn some money on a high stakes heist. But first, they need to do some recruiting in a glitzy space colony. So, they ditch their denim vests and spiked chokers for tuxes and gowns. But, as always, things go to hell.

This the first issue for the third volume of Kim & Kim. Even though I didn’t read the first two volumes, Magdalene Visaggio did a nice job of making me not feel lost. This seems to be a standalone story that anyone could easily jump on to. Visaggio’s writing is hilarious, if not a tad profane (warning for anyone sensitive to the f-word). She also writes suspenseful, yet free-flowing action. Her funny and action-filled story is perfectly encapsulated by the fact that the two Kims are trying to steal the original master recording of Belinda Carlisle’s “Heaven is a Place on Earth,” which is now firmly stuck in my head! So, thanks for that, Mags!

Moreober, Vissagio’s plot is well-paced and, again, funny as hell. She has created characters that are very well fleshed out and flawed. And, it is fun to watch them confidently bumble around and improvise when the proverbial s#!t hits the fan.

Furthermore, Eva Cabrera’s pencils and inks, combined with Claudia Aguirre’s colors make Visaggio’s story pop — lots of neon pink and orange! Cabrera’s line work is smooth and steady. Also, she draws perfect facial expressions that help accentuate Vissagio’s script.

Verdict: Buy it!

If you’re looking for an LGBTQ-positive series about some badass women, one of which is a trans (Kim Q.) and the other is bisexual (Kim D.), created by women, one of which is trans (Vissagio), then this book is for you. But let’s be honest, even if none of that is what you’re looking for, you might just enjoy it — so, give it a try!
