Super Meat Boy was released in 2008. It’s been eight years but it’s finally coming to a Nintendo platform with a May 12 release for the WiiU!

This good news comes more than five years after Team Meat cancelled the WiiWare version of the game in December 2010. The port had been planned for a November release but they had a rough time fitting the game onto the Wii platform with limited its digital games to a maximum file size of only 40 MB.

Team Meat canned the WiiWare port rather than release a compromised version of the work. They looked into the possibility of publishing the title for the Wii on a physical disc, but publishers didn’t bite so it never came to pass.

Super Meat Boy creator Edmund McMillen promised a Nintendo port.

“I will tell you, we will do a game on a Nintendo platform. That’s for sure.”

It’s taken a while, but they’ve made good on their word.

I read, I write, I play videogames, Ghostbusters is my favourite thing in the known universe, but quasars come in at a close second. I've been known to cry at the drop of a hat over happy and sad things alike. I've also been known to fly into a rage if things don't go my way, leading to many a fight in high school and breaking someone's nose on the TTC one time. I'm an anxious introvert but also a loud-mouthed bad influence. Especially on my cat. He learned it from watching me, okay!
