Goosebumps takes me back to Scholastic book fairs, grade school, and the flourishing of my love for all things creepy. While I might be out of grade school, my love for reading horror has not changed, so I jumped at the chance to review Goosebumps: Download and Die #1—a new all-ages comic from IDW.

In Goosebumps: Download and Die #1, Mitra and her best friends find a phone. Not just any phone, this device is the newest model with every app a person could want. But this is Goosebumps, so technology is going to be more nightmare than dream-come-true. As the phone begins to exhibit a personality all its own, Mitra quickly comes to regret accepting the free phone.

This comic is delightful. The three main characters are a trio of diverse girls with distinct personalities who are also gamers! I want to be friends with them. The writing is lighthearted but realistic, which pairs really well with the youthful cartoon art style. I love the humorous details sprinkled throughout, and a horror comic that includes a cat (who doesn’t die!!) is A+++ in my book.

Verdict: Buy it.
