Gracie Law is the female lead in cult movie Big Trouble in Little China and was played by actress Kim Cattrall (who you would obviously know from that hit TV shoe Sex and the City). I watched this film only a while ago once I found out they were doing a remake and decided to check it out. I spotted the Funko Pop in Forbidden Planet Cardiff and I thought it looked really pretty and it would make a perfect edition to my Funko Pop Girl Gang.

Big Trouble in Little China was created in 1986 and is a American fantasy action and comedy film which was directed by John Carpenter. It had many big name stars such as Kurt Russell (who obviously played the lead), Kim Cattrall (mentioned above, keep up) and James Hong. The film tells the tale of  Jack Burton, a tough lad who helps his friend Wang Chi rescue his green eyed fiancee from some insane bandits in San Francisco’s Chinatown. Their adventure leads them to this mysterious underworld beneath Chinatown, where they face sorcerer, who is named David (yes, David) Lo Pan, who is trying to find a woman with green eyes to release him from a very old curse.

Some info I found when researching: this film was meant to be a Western set in the 1880’s. I kid you not. The original screenplay was written by David Z and Gary Goldman however W.D.Richter was then hired to rewrite the script completely and had the task of modernising it. The studio hired John Carpenter, who was desperate to make a martial arts film.

The film was a dud. A complete failure at the time for many many many many many many reasons. It’s budget was $20 million. it made $11.1 million. It had a great affect on Carpenter and it’s views on Hollywood. He decided afterwards to return to independent film making. Since then it has become a cult classic.

The film gives me the same feeling as ‘The Room’. It just wound me up by how… ludicrous it could be. I also think I couldn’t handle the fact that Kim Cattrall was playing a somewhat Damsel in Distress , especially since I’m used to her playing the Queen of independent living Samantha. However, when I saw the Funko Pop I thought it was gorgeous. The details they put into her hair is on point and her eyes look exactly as they do in the film. The shape of head is awesome as it fits the hairstyle perfectly. Her body is slightly turned to her left which you don’t usually see with Funko Pops as the head and body usually face onwards.

One problem though… she cannot stand up for the life of her. She keeps falling down due to the fact her head piece is so heavy. Since I took these images she has fallen down so much the front of her head piece has broken! She still looks okay just not…complete.
