Covering seminal moments in Ledger’s career, from Monsters Ball, I’m Not There, and The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, to his ground-breaking role in Brokeback Mountain and his iconic portrayal of The Joker in The Dark Knight, for which he won a posthumous Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, the documentary focuses on Ledger’s fascination with the camera, with his love for photography motivating his professional goal of ultimately becoming a feature film director.
I Am Heath Ledger features interviews with the Ledger family, childhood friends, and artistic collaborators, actors Naomi Watts, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou and Emile Hirsch, Hollywood directors Ang Lee and Catherine Hardwicke, and musicians Ben Harper, N’fa, and Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) for which he created a series of visually arresting music videos.
