Joe Manganiello Has Co-Written a Dungeons & Dragons Screenplay

I’ve never played Dungeons & Dragons before but I have an affection for it nonetheless. My friends have promised to teach me about it in all of its glory SOMEDAY and I hold them all to that (it’s on the internet now guys, that’s like a quadruple promise – don’t question the math).

There have been a few Dungeons & Dragons movies, including the one from 2000 that starred Jeremy Irons. Warner Bros. is apparently planning a reboot of the franchise (in movie form) for sometime in the near future.

With that being said, we learned that the hunky Joe Manganiello is a HUGE D&D fan and while he was on Josh Horowitz’s podcast, Happy Sad Confused, he mentioned that he had co-written a screenplay draft for a Dungeons & Dragons movie. Manganiello worked with his playwright friend Carnegie Mellon to develop the script.

Not to stop there though, Manganiello also held a two-day creative summit alongside Wizards of the Coast to discuss his thoughts on the movie and what you could do with that world on the big screen and more.

“Obviously, there’s a spectacle. There’s dragons breathing fire and lightning. But I think what makes a great superhero or fantasy movie is the human aspect. It’s got to be about something. We root for those characters in Game of Thrones. Fellowship of the Ring was about friendship, this undying love for your friends and doing anything for your friends, and that’s something everyone can identify with. I think when a movie is about something human and real emotionally, people are going to want to go see it. Then if you get some dragons breathing fire, and hey, I’m in.”

SO. Manganiello has co-written a Dungeons & Dragons script. Warner Bros. is planning to do another D&D movie. Manganiello is currently connected to Warner through the DC movies where he’s playing Deathstroke in The Batman.

Does this mean that Warner is potentially planning on using Manganiello’s script? Cause we really want to see this…
