If you’re out on the road, feeling lonely, and so cold, all you have to do is call my name and I’ll be there on the next train…

Our previous site takeover events have been built around massive franchises. Alien. Ghostbusters. Star Trek. To some, Gilmore Girls doesn’t fit with that tradition. Well, that’s sort of the point. One of my favourite things about fandom is the community built around a franchise. It doesn’t matter if it’s something that’s meant to have a cult geek following like a sci-fi or fantasy franchise, it just has to inspire people to latch onto it and claim it as their own. And I think there’s a different flavour to the articles coming up today because of that.

Gilmore Girls has a different sort of fandom than Star Trek or Alien. It’s decidedly more female, for one, which is probably one of the reasons it isn’t considered geek in the first place. But I assure you, it so is. The way that people talk about this show, interact with this show, wait the length of the Obama administration for the return of this show, should speak volumes for how important it is to our lives.

Yes, our. If you don’t think I’m as excited to see where everyone is in A Year in the Life, you’re dead wrong. I have questions. Why is Kirk at the Friday Night Dinner table? #TeamKirk?? I must know!

When I first proposed this idea, I tested the waters. I told myself I needed at least five articles to go through with it at all. We ended up with eleven! New content every half hour from now until 1:30pm. We’ve landed some amazing new talent with great ideas who were an absolute joy to work with. And our regular site staff, even if they didn’t already love the show, totally stepped up. Amelia wrote an article on Gilmore Girls for this. Do you have any idea how long I’ve wanted to watch it with her? Granted, she only watched two episodes and hated it, but… still! That’s a get!

Every single one of our contributors came through. Well, almost everyone came through. My article unfortunately got cut. It was about Kirk. And all the weird joy that he brings. I love that boy. It broke my heart when I realized I didn’t actually have time to write about him. I probably still will on a random Thursday in March. Maybe even with an answer to my dinners question. And definitely a complete, intense review of a film by kirk.

Anyways, I’m rambling. I’ve stayed up way too late to finish this event on time and I have gone through way too many cups of coffee. Though isn’t that appropriate? I hope you’re as excited as I am to see what the whole team has to offer. There are so many amazing articles coming up. Oy, with the poodles already.

I will follow, where you lead.
