Since the big announcement was made back in June, Supernatural fans have been eagerly waiting for a much-needed and much-deserved spinoff series of their favourite show. Wayward Sisters, the show that started as a hashtag, will follow the lives of four young hunters under the guidance of Sheriff Jody Mills.

The show brings on a whole new meaning to the term fanmade. While the title Wayward Sisters is a clear nod to Kansas’ “Carry On My Wayward Son,” which has pretty much become Supernatural‘s anthem, it’s also derived from the hashtag that started it all: #WaywardDaughters. The hashtag, which was created by fans nearing the end of Season 9, formed a movement that called for a spinoff series involving Claire Novak, Alex Jones, and Sheriff Jody Mills. It wasn’t long before #WaywardDaughters gained the support of the Supernatural cast and production crew.

Wayward Sisters will premiere on January 18 via the tenth episode of Supernatural Season 13. Here is what we know about the series so far.

1. The Sisters will be guided by Sheriff Jody Mills (Kim Rhodes).

Rhodes was the first to be recruited for the new spinoff series when the announcement was made in June. Shortly after, it was announced that Briana Buckmaster would also be joining the Wayward Sisters cast as Sheriff Donna Hanscum.

2. This will be the series’ second attempt at a spinoff.

The twentieth episode of Supernatural‘s ninth season served as the backdoor pilot to a proposed new series called Bloodlines. The pilot, which was written by Andrew Dabb and directed by Robert Singer, was meant to introduce a Supernatural spinoff series that explored a world of monster-hunter action in Chicago. However, the episode wasn’t received well by viewers, and the CW decided against picking up the series.

3. The series will centre on the lives of four young women.

Supernatural has spent much of season 13 building up its Wayward Sisters roster. The final lineup (for now) includes Castiel’s human’s daughter, Claire Novak; former vampire bloodbag Alex Jones; Patience Turner, a psychic; and Kaia Nieves, a dreamwalker.

4. Claire Novak will lead the rescue of Sam and Dean.

The last time we saw Claire Novak, she took off after Sam and Dean saved her from becoming a werewolf. However, in an interview with EW, writer Robert Berens explained that “a crisis will occur that will force [Claire] back into the fold of the Wayward family.”

In the latest promo for the midseason premiere of Supernatural, Claire narrates her intention to save Sam and Dean Winchester. “They saved me once. Now, I’m gonna save them,” she says. We already know that Claire and Kaia are going to travel to the other world to find Sam and Dean, but from this new promo, it sounds like Claire will be leading the mission.

5. Wayward Sisters will spend less time on the road than Supernatural.

According to its showrunners, Wayward Sisters will plant its roots in Jody Mills’ hometown of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In contrast with Supernatural‘s constant road tripping, the spinoff series will be set in one location (with room for a road trip or two) and will have a heavier focus on character building in one place.

6. Claire and Kaia will develop a unique bond.

The two characters have had similar life experiences. Both have a hard time trusting others and have spent most of their adolescence surviving on their own. According to Kathryn Love-Newton in an interview with EW, the two will quickly find common ground.
