Welcome to Ghostbusters Day

Rogues Portal is excited about Ghostbusters. Whether that means Dan Ackroyd or Melissa McCarthy, Maurice LaMarche or Kate McKinnon. We love the idea of men or women for whom bustin’ makes them feel good. It’s unfortunate how controversial a stance that is.

Paul Feig’s new Ghostbusters film is the reason that we’re here. The fact that it’s a classic franchise getting remade isn’t the issue. The fact that it’s getting remade with women is. It’s not news that this film has received unprecedented amounts of backlash. Ghostbusters 2016 has the most disliked trailer in the history of YouTube. That’s ridiculous. Even if it was that bad (it won’t be) the fact that there are men out there actively campaigning against it shows how important it was to actually try making this movie in the first place.

Rogues Portal wants to be here to keep the positivity train rolling. We’re an inclusive site. A feminist site. The fact that this movie is happening makes us happy. We hope you accept our invitation to celebrate Ghostbusters Day along with us.

The original Ghostbusters is about a lot of things. It’s about the democratization of technology. It’s about science winning out over superstition. It’s about how Walter Peck has no dick. What? It’s what I heard. But its main message is about teamwork and camaraderie, a team coming together to cross the streams to defeat a greater obstacle.

In that spirit, this day celebrates the entire franchise. Ghostbusters. The Real Ghostbusters. Ghostbusters II. Extreme Ghostbusters. Ghostbusters: The Video Game. Ghostbusters comics. Obviously, Ghostbusters (2016) has now joined that list.

But before our day actually begins, I want to offer a thank you to all of our amazing contributors who made this day possible. As articles have come flying back in at me over the course of the last several weeks, I’m proud to say that we have a team who saw my vision for the day immediately and came through with an enormous amount of quality content. Seriously. Everything I’ve received has been absolutely amazing.

Thank you to the writers. Thank you to Stephanie Cooke who put me in charge of organizing these events. Thank you to Amelia Wellman who watches The Real Ghostbusters when she’s sick and lets me play the theme song ad nauseum while I write.

The Rogues Portal staff have contributed over 21 articles today. We’re going to have at least one article up every half hour from 8am to 6pm.

That’s a big day.

That’s a big twinkie.
