It’s Toy Photography Thursday once again and this time I had the chance to assemble and photograph this beautiful humming bird by Wilko Blocks. If you live in Britain, you would know that Wilko is a British chain store with over 370 stores across Britain. Founded in 1930’s by J.K. Wilkinson the store is known for still being a family owned store and known for it’s low prices and convenience. My mother used to work in Wilko (back then it was called ‘Wilkinson’s) so we do have a slight soft spot for the store.

Not everyone (including myself) cannot afford to pay over £100 for a Lego set, so it’s always nice to find cheaper alternatives. Wilko has a vast range of building block sets which include dinosaurs, rock concerts, spaceships, and hot air ballons, and all for a really cheap price. The largest Lego building block costs £10 (which is $12.49 in dollars).

This was a pain to put together! Especially the wings as they kept falling apart. I ended up using the strongest glue I could find and even now the wings fall apart. But it’s worth it because it’s a pretty building block set and I do love the design. The colours are incredibly vibrant and it’s a cute little size too.

I also really happy with photography as well. The humming bird can be seen quite nicely. I still cannot get the hand of getting the background to be white so I still have to master the lighting, but hopefully that’ll come soon. I don’t think I’ll be buying any more Wilko blocks. I’ve seen the rest of them and nothing has grabbed my attention quite like the humming bird. It’ll be quite nice to have a group of Wilko Buildings Blocks resembling birds so hopefully they’ll expand their animal Building Block range to include more.

You can view more of the Wilko Building Blocks range here!
