Toy Photography Thursday: Luffy

Today for Toy Photography Thursday I decided to take some images of my Banpresto One Piece 6.2-Inch Monkey D Luffy Sculpture, which has been sitting in it’s box for the past two years and deserved its time in the spotlight!

Luffy Background
Monkey D. Luffy, also known as “Straw Hat Luffy” and commonly as”Straw Hat”, is the main protagonist of the manga and anime, One Piece Luffy is a pirate and his lifelong dream is to become the Pirate King by finding the legendary treasure left behind by the late Pirate King, Gol D. Roger. He believes that being Pirate King means having the most freedom in the world. He has eaten the Gomu Gomu no Mi, which gives the consumer’s body the properties of rubber. As the founder and captain of the Straw Hat Pirates, he is the first member of the crew, as well as one of its top three fighters.

Banpresto
Banpresto are known for producing high quality figurines at an affordable price, and this Luffy figurine is no exception. The figurine is amazingly detailed, it’s covered with texture which gives it depth. It’s amazing to see how much work went into this little figurine. The creases in the trousers to his hilarious expression: I’m very impressed with the quality. The figurine itself is also incredibly sturdy! I placed him in the most awkward of places when I decided to do the shoot and he managed to stay up quite well! Again, I’m thoroughly impressed!

I thoroughly enjoyed taking photos of this figurine and I’m glad I ventured outside the studio for a change. This shoot also made me realize that I should start investing in some more high quality figurines since they are a lot more interesting to photograph. I think I captured the idea of running perfectly! Taking images of him outdoors was a good idea on my part, it makes the figurine a lot more interesting than placing it in front of a studio. Have to admit, these images are the best toy photography images I’ve taken so far!
