The Further Adventures of Nick Wilson #5 concludes the mini-series about the life of a superhero after he loses his super powers. Nick Wilson is the only superhero the world has ever seen. Now, it’s been almost a decade since he lost his powers, and he continues to struggle to find meaning in his life. Will he get a grip on life and find some semblance of happiness? This and many more questions are answered in this concluding chapter.

The series concludes with the Nick Wilson Museum grand opening looming; however, Nick Wilson is nowhere to be found. The strength of this series has always been the dialogue. The writers nailed the voices and characterizations of all the players. I could read their dialogue all day. I was quite crestfallen that this series is wrapping up, so imagine my surprise when, at the end, the creators allude to a follow-up series.

The pacing of this series has been perfect. It is such an enjoyable slice-of-life comic. As a result, I could not have cared less about Nick Wilson the superhero, rather I found myself enthralled by the redemptive arc of Nick Wilson the flawed human. Also, there was a particularly sweet payoff, and twist, involving his homophonic arch-nemesis, Clive, that made me smile.

The art in The Further Adventures of Nick Wilson #5 is smooth and natural feeling. The strength of Sadowski’s art is in his character work. The way he makes his characters “act” is phenomenal. The facial expressions convey their emotions so well; it really helps add an emotional depth to the story.

Verdict: Buy it. 

I would maybe wait for the trade to release on July 25th. Either way, The Further Adventures of Nick Wilson is worth the purchase, especially if you enjoy witty, funny dialogue and the full gamut of real, human emotion.
