In just a few short months, we will have Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in our collective hands, and obviously the roster of available characters is a big talking point. Surprises abound with the reveals for Smash Ultimate. Not only will the entire past cast of characters return for the fight, but they will be joined by much-awaited newcomers from Castlevania, Pokemon and Metroid. Waluigi, and his fans, was sadly left behind, with the final spot clinched at the last minute by the plain ol’ classic Piranha Plant.
Hope is still burning bright for some characters to make it in through DLC content, however. Sakurai recently announced there would be five additional DLC characters added after the release. Fans speculated wildly for a day or two, but Sakurai himself quickly put a stop to it with a series of tweets.
“Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s DLC line-up is now complete. This time the selection was made entirely by Nintendo. I decide if we can create a fighter based on their selection, then come up with the plan. It’s great to dream about your favorite character joining the battle and I appreciate your passion, but please try to stay on topic when replying to tweets and refrain from flooding us, and other users, with requests when we’re not specifically asking for feedback. Thank you!”
So it looks like the decisions have already been made and passed around the Smash team at Nintendo. No fan input, no ballot, Nintendo just straight-up hand picked characters. Who do you think will make it? I’m personally hoping for more Final Fantasy reps, of course, but I’ll take what I can get. We’ll all find out together in December!
