With the dust settling on the divisive Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and the imminent release of Captain America: Civil War, comic book movie fans will start to turn their attention and expectation to the next Marvel Phase Three movie Doctor Strange.
Shooting for the hotly anticipated movie wrapped this week with various images from the location being released on-line. More have surfaced which show our titular character running through New York with traditional nemesis Baron Mordo in toe. Followed by what looks like the fall out of an explosion. Maybe that’s what out hero and Mordo are running towards, who knows? It’s fun to speculate! What does seem clear is that the two seem to be together if not working together. If that’s the case, who is this movie’s big bad? Well, it seems the answer is likely to be Mads Mikkelsen, who has also been pictured looking menacing and awesome in full make up on set.
Ever since Stephen Strange’s name was uttered during Captain America: The Winter Soldier, fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been waiting for the character’s arrival in earnest. The announcement of his inclusion in Marvel’s Phase Three along with Black Panther, Captain Marvel and the Inhumans was received with a lot of excitement.
With a stellar cast including scrabble high scoring names Cumberbatch, Ejiofor and the less exotic but equally awesome Tilda Swinton and Rachel McAdams, the movie will take us into uncharted territory, one of magic, fantasy and inter-dimensional travel. The movie also has the remarkable quirk of starring two men named Benedict, with one Mr Benedict Wong rounding out the main cast as the faithful servant Wong.
It seems we are still some way out from a full trailer but with the movie being released on November 4th 2016, we cant be too far away. Once the dust settles on Cap and Iron Man’s little skirmish, we can all look forward to a trip into the darker corners of the Marvel universe, personally I can’t wait. Neither it seems can Mr Cumberbatch who took time out after filming wrapped to shop for comic books in full costume. He even picked out a personal favourite of mine, Doctor Strange: The Oath.
