One of the most widely accepted effective methods of teaching is by using fables or tales. However, not all boarding houses are the same. So depending on the school, those tales may be of the cat o’ nine variety. In Immoral X-Men #1 writer Kieron Gillen decides that even though the doors of Xavier’s have been closed for years Mr. Sinister still needs some instructing. Leinil Yu’s cover may show readers the guest professor, but the moral of the story may make you question the syllabus
Immoral X-Men begins 10 years after the release of the Sinister X-gene in the 616 Marvel Universe. Still there appear to be at least some heroes who refuse to go quietly. One, Nick Fury Jr., along with what’s left of the Howling Commandos, plans to take down the cerebro network. Unfortunately two members of the Quiet Council can hear everything they are thinking. The scale of the image that ink and pencilers Media, Wong Olazaba give the scene as these humans follow Charles’ psychic suggestion makes Emma calling him a wimp seem like maybe she is just suffering from sour grapes. Or perhaps no longer willing to suffer for others sins?
Even though Sinister has a world of his own design, he isn’t quite content. His control is incomplete – at least in terms of The Quiet Council – and there is no other solution than to find his lab and Moira clones to reset this timeline. And while there are other “Sinisters” of more concern, it seems Essex’s biggest error was he forgot to measure twice. Especially when one member of the Quiet Council he attempts to control is a ruler in her own right.
As enemies go, Gillen couldn’t have chosen a better one to oppose Sinister’s plans. While a portion of Frost’s personality proves more than enough to see through Sinister’s deceptions, it was interesting that the other members could not. But then again this mutants has been manipulating X-Men since the days of Generation Hope. Actually make that Generation X or even New Mutants. Wait, who did you think was the subject of this study?
At least that’s how it seems with how easily Emma manipulates the other members of the Quiet Council. Her hide and seek game with Sinister feels like a teacher calling for recess. This gives her time for some “after’ office hours with Nathaniel, especially since she brings a whip. Sinister’s meeting with the headmistress reminds readers why so many students at Xavier’s were hot for this teacher. Ramos and Sotomayor give Emma an satisfactory retrograde, returning the Queen to her roots with the her classic Hellfire outfit.
So what did you learn in Immoral X-Men today?
This isn’t a man, or even Sinister’s world.
This is Emma’s world
