In case you live under a rock and have missed all the announcements, including ours here at Rogues Portal, Postal will be developed into an original television series for Hulu. I have never had any desire to get Hulu, my mind has been changed. I am looking forward to the town of Eden coming to life before my eyes. I am even more anxious to find out who is going to be cast for all of these wonderful damaged characters that Bryan Hill and Matt Hawkins has presented to us. If you aren’t reading this book yet, you better start catching up!
This issue starts out with a bang! The first five pages are insane and filled with action straight out of a summer blockbuster. We witness a gang crash their way into a stronghold, shoot the place up, along with everyone in it and make out with 1.3 million dollars of Abner’s heroin. Oh, he just happens to owe that to the Russians. With no dialogue in those first few pages, Goodhart’s artwork details beautifully choreographed violence. He crafts an amazing looking panel with lettering effect and a healthy dose of blood and gore, compliments of Russell. All so tasty! Laura is getting checked out Eden’s doctor after her fall at the end of the last issue. In discussing her health, I found it interesting that the doctor inquired about who would be in her successor in Eden. The doctor explains that she strikes fear into the residents, her son, Mark, does not, so where does that leave things? Of course Laura isn’t a fan of this conversation and issues somewhat of a threat and says she isn’t getting weaker, she is just tired.
The rest of the issue intensifies as we see Mark call Abner to tell him how retrieve the drugs and that he works for “The Post Office”. Seeing Mark deliver that line brought a smile to my face. He just may have a bit of his parents in him after all! We also get back around to see what Rowan is up to and is visited by Curtis, who asks Rowan what exactly did he do to get himself into trouble. Goodhart once again compliments Hill’s writing with the strong emotional expressions on Rowan and Curtis’s faces. The drama is incredible, I can see this on TV already! Finally we get back to Abner and see an actual human side to him for once as he cares for his daughter and then a call from his hitman starts to make things interesting. War is coming and I am looking forward to it!
Verdict:
Buy It!!! I can count on one hand how many books that I REALLY look forward to when they are released. Postal is and has been one of them since the outstanding first issue. Hill’s writing has caught me from the beginning and only gets better as he progresses with each issue. I love all of these characters. Nice, Sweet, charming, sick, sadistic, evil, sly, manipulating, I love them all! We are still a bit ways off from the television show, but don’t be one of the ones standing on the sidelines and then scrambling to pick up every issue. Do it now! It’s an amazing story that looks only to be getting better!
