I went back in with my knowledge of the fact that I have been playing with other REAL PEOPLE the whole time (like some sort of Black Mirror directed M. Night Shyamalan movie…) and had the confidence to just jump into a game.
Still remaining within my comfort zone, I headed over to the Arcade section once again and picked out Junkenstein’s Revenge to try. The previous few attempts I’d made at the game ended with my team losing to Junkestein and his spooky cronies so I was determined to beat it and earn a Halloween Loot Box.
I had been using McCree previously but someone snatched him up before I could select him and I wound up using Soldier: 76, which was actually amazing. I had been kind of avoiding using him but I had a lot of fun and my team finally beat Junkenstein! I was so pleased. I even wound up with the most kills in the game, in the triple digits and got voted as in by my teammates in the best play of the game section (the one that allows your peers to judge who did a great job). It was a great ego boost to my skills as a newcomer to the game and made me super excited to dive back in.
Next, I tried the other Junkenstein Arcade game, Junkenstein Endless which we did not do well on. We lasted probably halfway through the level before we succumbed to the bad guys and were all killed.
So a big success and a big failure…
BUT that being said, I’m starting to find comfort zones with the game and really enjoy myself. I want to explore the characters more and try to figure out which ones I like the best. When you played the Arcade games like Junkenstein’s Revenge, you don’t have a lot of choice in terms of what characters to can play as – I think Hanzo, McCree, Ana, Soldier: 76 and one other (I can’t remember which) are the options. I want to get more comfortable as Hanzo and Ana and try Junkenstein again with them. I know they’re both sniper characters though, which I find hard to use within a game like Overwatch.
I’m really starting to find my stride overall and I’m excited to try out more parts of the game and succeed (or fail) but have fun doing it all!
