Review by Michael Farris, Jr.

Lucas Stand: Inner Demons #3 starts off with our hero rescuing his old military buddy/former crush from being burned at the stake by a village of demon-possessed Vikings, and if that short description doesn’t grab your attention, then I can’t help you. After disposing of the demon-Vikes, Lucas and Dylan take off to visit the mysterious witch that seems to be on the right side of the supernatural struggle. But Dylan is sidetracked by a poor woman who has lost her son in a haunted forest…or so we’re led to believe.

My reviews of the first two issues in this series both had one request: moar demons. I’m happy to report that there were, indeed, “moar” demons in Lucas Stand: Inner Demons #3. And this book was super creepy. The slow transformation of the Viking dude into a hideous hell-creature was a good-enough sign, but then we got that haunted forest where you could feel the isolation and the quietness of the place.

And then there’s that demon that shows up in the forest (I don’t think that’s a spoiler. I mean, come on, Lucas Stand comic…haunted forest…you knew it was coming). It felt like a natural climax to wandering through that haunted forest, and then all the craziness that happens after that fight is leading up to a promising grand finale in the next issue.

All the praise I have about the creepiness of this book is not possible without the artwork. Like I said, you feel that forest. The minimalist approach at some points works so well to hear how quiet it is before all hell literally breaks loose.

Verdict: Buy it.

Is Lucas Stand: Inner Demons #3 the strongest issue of the series so far? I’d say so. It has demons; it has horror; it has a demon hunter kicking butt; and it has a crazy twist at the end, so I’d say this one checks all the boxes and does so with authority.
