If you’re into RPGs and looking for a cool kickstarter to back, do not mess this opportunity to back Tales from the Loop – Roleplaying in the 80’s That Never Was. It’s not only an interesting storyline, but it gives you an 80s feel, mixed with media like Stranger Things, The Goonies, and E.T.! It’s not like anything that I, or a lot of people, have seen before and it’s something that will probably change how we role-play.

Tales from the Loop – Roleplaying in the 80’s That Never Was is an interesting story even I can’t sum up. Here’s what they say on their official kickstarter:

In 1954, the Swedish government ordered the construction of the world’s largest particle accelerator. The facility was complete in 1969, located deep below the pastoral countryside of Mälaröarna. The local population called this marvel of technology The Loop.

The game works like your traditional D+D game, with a pen and paper game, but instead of playing as orcs, elves, mages and more, you’ll be playing teenagers. Yes, I’m serious, teenagers. That’s pretty dope! In the game, you’ll play as 80s style kind-of stereotype teenagers such as: the Bookworm, the Troublemaker, the Popular Kid and the Weirdo. It’s such a cool concept, I’m overflowed with joy.

There’s a highly powerful team that makes this game even more exciting. Tales from the Loop is written by Niles Hintze, backed by Free League team and legendary artist, Simon Stalenhag, is the author, concept designer and artist for Tales from the Loop. The game draws you in with his beautiful illustrations that creates a sci-fi world within 1980s suburbia. It’s absolutely gorgeous and when you look at the concept art, you think it’s just a normal world until you do a double-take and realize that this world is much interesting than you’d think.

Now for the coolness! The Kickstarter has already been successfully funded, but there’s still time to get the rewards. They’re working on getting some more of the goals unlocked so we can know more and more about this world. For their core campaign stretch goals, they wanted to make the hardcover book available, but since that’s been accomplished, there are so many more goals have been able to be unlocked and added on!

Listen, I’m a giant D+D nerd. I wish I could gain some more stable nerdy friends so we can form a team and play.  I also love Stranger Things (which isn’t surprising to anyone who knows me from this site). Tales from the Loop mixes a ton of great elements in order to make it a fulfilling and immediately liked thing. I immediately backed it as soon as our wonderful Editor-In-Chief shared it.

Tales from the Loop ends its campaign and will become funded on December 15th. The PDFs are due before Christmas Day (so… guys… Christmas presents *points to link*) and the actual book and game will be shipped in February. So, if you want to romance someone too with an RPG game… *click tongues* highly recommended.

So, if you like Stranger Things, E.T., The Goonies, pretty much any sci-fi and, importantly, the 80s, please back Tales from the Loop – Roleplaying in the 80’s That Never Was. You won’t regret it!
