Here we are fellow readers, my last post on my Halloween Horror Fest, with only 3 films to go and I have to admit I feel as if I’ve saved the best ’till last. These three films are among my top 10 favourite horror films of all time! All 3 films differ in content (obviously, they’re different films but you know what I mean), but they also differ in their scare tactics. One is very disturbing, the other is amazing, and the other…well I’ll get to that one hehehe… Here I bring to you my last 3 films for Halloween 2016!

29. The Noroi Curse
This is one of the most disturbing horror films I’ve ever watched, and I’ve watched some pretty messed up films in my time. Following in the footsteps of The Blair Witch Project, this found footage horror from Japan is scary, especially since there is no background music so you have no idea what is about to happen. There is a lot going on in the plot which I don’t want to give away too much so I shall give you a brief overview. The acting is also superb throughout and some of the most solid performances I’ve seen in Asian horror. The film focuses on paranormal expert Masafumi Kobayashi who produced a series of books and documentaries on supernatural activity around Japan. He disappeared in the process of making his most disturbing documentary yet, The Curse. His house burnt down and his wife was found dead in the ruins. The movie begins to play, shown mostly through recordings of Kobayashi’s Camerman Miyajima.

30. Housebound
I was told about this film through a work colleague. They said, “Rhian you need to watch Housebound. Don’t read up on it, don’t watch the trailer, just watch it and then we can talk about it”. So I did exactly as I was told, and I’m so glad I did! I can easily say it’s one of my favourite horror movies and one of my favourite films to come out of New Zealand/Australia. Do you know what, I’m not going to tell you anything about it either. I’m not going to give you any information about it, I’m not going to show you a trailer either. If you want a pleasant surprise do as I say above, don’t read up on it and don’t watch any trailers. Find the film on Netflix and enjoy. You can thank me later.

31. Dog Soldiers
I can easily say I’ve saved the best film until last. I watched this film for the first time last Halloween and I absolutely loved it. I watched it a week later with my dad and I loved it even more. I know so many people who hate this film and I honestly don’t understand why! It’s great fun, it doesn’t take itself too seriously but the actors and actresses still put 100% into their performances. It’s hard to take it seriously but you do! It does have you at the edge of your seats and the action just keeps coming! During a routine nighttime training mission in the Scottish Highlands, a small squad of British soldiers that are expected to rendezvous with special ops unit, instead find a bloody massacre with one sole survivor. The attackers return and the group are immediately saved by Megan, a zoologist who identifies the hunters as werewolves. Without any transportation or communications, the group is forced to retreat to a farmhouse and wait for the full moon to disappear at dawn, by with each passing day, the werewolves get smarter and the less ammo the team has. Amazing action packed film and I cannot recommend it enough!

And there you have it. I hope you enjoy my Halloween Horror Fest posts, until next time – sleep tight!
