Elsewhere #7 continues the adorable, elseworlds-esque story of Amelia Earhart and her quest to return to Earth. In this issue, Amelia and D.B. Cooper push forward in their attempt to reach the portal that will take them back to Earth. This issue picks up right after the cliffhanger from last issue.
Elsewhere #7 is another fun entry in this fantasy adventure from three-fourths of the creative team from Copperhead (a personal favorite). Faerber has a great sense of lighthearted fun and adventure, as well as the ability to sprinkle in some high stakes drama. Overall, this series leans more to the fun side; however, there is enough drama to keep you on your toes. In the past few issues, the pacing has kind of wound down. As a result, not much ground has been covered. However, this issue ends in a way that promises to raise the stakes and amp up the action.
Since I was oblivious to the real-life stories that inspired Elsewhere, I didn’t get the full impact of DB Cooper’s inclusion. I suggest you Google the real-life DB before reading this series. The mystery surrounding his disappearance is fascinating. Then, read this series and marvel at how Faerber gets him to slowly grow on you.
Kesgin’s art in Elsewhere #7 is vibrant and playful. I was particularly impressed with the underwater sequences. Due to Riey’s muted colors, deeper shades and streaks of light, I found myself holding my breath with the characters. Also, there was a particularly unique sequence involving reanimated animal skeletons.
Verdict: Buy it!
I was beginning to move towards being on the fence after the pacing of the past few issues. But, the story starts to pick up steam here in Elsewhere #7. The reveal at the end spells danger for Amelia and DB.
