The Baltimore Comic-Con is less than a month away! Comic-book and pop-culture enthusiasts will soon descend on Baltimore’s Inner Harbor for three days of exhibitions, signings, discussions, contests, and other fun. Large enough that you can meet your favorites, but small enough that you do not have to suffer the long lines and crowds of a New York or Toronto convention, Baltimore is an intimate affair where fans can glimpse Scott Snyder, Garth Ennis, Louise Simonson, Denny O’Neill, and Frank Miller.

The convention also features younger and avant-garde comic book creators. One of my favorites, Amy Chu, will be on hand. Chu runs the Alpha Girl Comics imprint, writes Red Sonja and KISS for Dynamite, and begins work on Green Hornet for Dynamite next year. GLAAD Media Award nominee and fan-favorite Marguerite Bennett (Bombshells, InSEXts) will also be in Baltimore, as will Mark Buckingham of Miracleman and Fables. Mini-comic fans will be pleased to know that Ed Piskor will be in attendance.

Fans of film and television can also check out Will Wheaton and Mike Colder. Promoter Marc Nathan describes Wheaton as “geek-chic” for his roles on Star Trek: Next Generation and The Big Bang Theory, as well as for his work advocating for mental health care. Colter is best known for his portrayal of Luke Cage in the popular Netflix series of that name, as well as in Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and The Defenders. And, finally, loyal followers of The Oath and Arrow will have the chance to catch up with Katrina Law.

The convention also promises exhibitions, a costume contest, and the presentation of the 2018 Ringo Awards. The Ringos are fan- and pro-nominated awards for creativity and skill in comics. Last year’s winners included Tom King (writer), Fiona Staples (artist) and Marvel’s Vision (Series). For directions and other information about tickets and scheduling for this event, refer to the convention website.
