The Weatherman #1 introduces readers to Nathan Bright: the weatherman on Mars. Nathan has a great career, a gorgeous girlfriend, and a lovable furry companion named Sadie. So, what’s the problem? Well, when most of planet Earth is wiped out from a devastating terrorist attack, people look to the skies to place blame, and Nathan becomes a wanted man. Nathan’s humorous outlook and devil-may-care attitude makes it seem unlikely that he’s involved, but a ruthless group of bounty hunters show that they’re willing to do whatever is necessary to take him out.

This sci-fi story is a unique one, and who knew that a comic about a weatherman could be so interesting! First of all, as mentioned above, the whole idea that this goofy weatherman could be involved in such a destructive crime has me intrigued. And just who is his girlfriend Amanda and why did she have a gun? And, despite how sad a certain incident made me, a story that already has me emotionally wrecked in the first issue is quite a feat.

The art style is perfectly suited for this story. The bold colors and cartoonish-futuristic vibe pairs well with Nathan’s character, as well as life in the year 2770. There’s also a great amount of care in the details here. Each panel feels carefully thought out, from the characters’ expressions to the lettering choices.

Verdict: Buy it.

With The Weatherman #1, this creative dream-team is taking us on a wild ride through space, and I’m in!

The Weatherman #1 will be available in comic shops Wednesday, June 13, 2018.
