Interested in knowing what television will be back in the fall? If you’re a fan of ABC, you’re losing some big (and not so big) ones for the fall of 2016. Here are the ABC Cancellations (so far).

The Muppets

The Muppets struggled to find their footing and gain viewers with its original incarnation in the fall and then the hasty midseason creative reboot (despite people not understanding that the Muppets never really were meant for children). Their premiere logged 9 million views but the season finale logged only 2.7 million viewers. There was an idea floating around Disney to try for one more shot based on the Muppets brand strength, but it was vetoed.

Marvel’s Agent Carter

Agent Carter is officially cancelled after two seasons.

While it was a critical favourite, it was never a rating breakthrough. The second season renewal was a surprise to fans and it returned as a ‘gap’ show under former ABC Entertainment Group president Paul Lee. Despite tonnes of praise from critics, Carter finished its limited run with a 1.4 rating and 4.3 million total viewers with DVR.

Castle

aswertfcCastle just finished its eighth season and the cancellation came as a surprise after the announcement that Stana Katic and Tamala Jones would not return for a potential ninth season (their exits no doubt a cost-cutting measure designed to allow the show another season).

Some good news though, with the possibility of cancellation looming, executive producers Alexi Hawley and Terence Paul Winter shot a final scene that could act as closure for the series and protect the fans from an infinite cliffhanger.
Also cancelled on ABC are: Blood & Oil, The Family, Galavant, Nashville, Rookie Blue, The Whispers, and Wicked City.

I read, I write, I play videogames, Ghostbusters is my favourite thing in the known universe, but quasars come in at a close second. I've been known to cry at the drop of a hat over happy and sad things alike. I've also been known to fly into a rage if things don't go my way, leading to many a fight in high school and breaking someone's nose on the TTC one time. I'm an anxious introvert but also a loud-mouthed bad influence. Especially on my cat. He learned it from watching me, okay!
