Backwards Compatability

At E3 2015, Microsoft announced the most requested feature of this generation: backwards compatability for Xbox 360 games on the Xbox One. After nearly two years of backwards compatability for Xbox 360, Microsoft is pushing the envelop further, bringing original Xbox games to the Xbox One tomorrow starting with 13 games. Here are the Xbox games you will be able to play on Xbox One starting tomorrow!

  • Black
  • Bloodrayne 2
  • Crimson Skies
  • Dead to Rights
  • Fuzion Frenzy
  • Grabbed by the Ghoulies
  • Neowave: The King of Fighters
  • Ninja Gaiden Black
  • Pirates!
  • Prince of Persia
  • Psychonauts
  • Red Faction II
  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

While this is only a fraction of the nearly 1000 titles the original Xbox offered throughout its lifetime, it is a damn good list to start. Crimson Skies is one of the best Xbox Live experiences out there, and Ninja Gaiden Black is one of the toughest games ever made. Also Psychonauts is an extremely original platformer, and should not be missed. Not to mention BioWare’s first foray into Sci-Fi RPG’s, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Mass Effect owes everything to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and that is the first title I am going to check out.

On top of all of this, these games will be scaled up in resolution thanks to the processing power of the Xbox One X, the premium version of the Xbox One releasing in a few weeks. This is being done using some fancy coding methods on the video output, so the original code of these games are being untouched. This allows the games to be preserved exactly as they were, but gives players all the bells and whistles of modern gaming.

As far as wishlist games go, Fable and Burnout 3 top my list. I highly doubt Halo and Halo 2 will be coming to backwards compatability anytime soon thanks to Microsoft releasing the Master Chief Collection back in 2014. I could see the two titles that helped build the Xbox brand eventually added, but for now, these first few games are a great start.
