Weapon H #2 presents readers with the type of situation that Dr. Strange naturally feels he should be involved in. So, he brings himself and his mystical arsenal to assist Weapon H. However, the Wendigo is not your typical cursed cannibal, and the fight gets more complicated by the fact that it seems to have impenetrable skin and grows the more it consumes. Fortunately, our heroes prevail, but Clay is soon driven off when too much is revealed about him for his liking. And the oversized brawl has attracted the attention of a shady organization.

I remember thinking how completely fun the first installment of this series was due to the insane amount of over-the-topness it had. This second one felt like the writer decided, “Oh, so you like over the top? I’LL GIVE YOU OVER THE TOP!” This issue was insane. So much punching and slashing and magic arrows, and it was just crazy. And yet, it still seems like it’s maintaining enough story about Clay and his separation from his family to make you want to keep going. Plus, you know, militaristic corporations that are up to no good as evidenced by their monster-driven quotas always add an additional intrigue factor.

The artwork does a great job handling the creature battles, although there are some parts where the art felt like the weakest part of the book. In some panels it was a little difficult to understand what was going on, and there were a few times where Weapon H seemed very oddly proportioned, especially his head. But overall, it takes a wild story and makes it that much more ballistically fun to read. And the final page, followed by the teaser for the next cover, tells me this story and the art are going to get even more extravagant.

Verdict: Buy it.

This comic, as the kids would say, is dope. Weapon H #2 is an adrenaline-fueled monster bash that has enough heart in the story to justify that you invest your time.
