Rogues’ Essentials

Archies #4

  • I love music comics! It’s even better when Archie & the gang are involved. – Anelise
  • This has been such a fun comic focused on not giving up on your dream. Rosenberg continues to turn everything to gold. – Greg

Royal City #9

  • This story breaks my heart every issue, and I love it for that. – Anelise
  • Lemire continues to tell a story that draws you in and slowly peels back the layers of each family member. Add that to his watercolor art, and you have a can’t miss series. – Greg

Slots #4

  • This comic is a hilarious mix of the seedy Vegas underworld and characters that you love and hate all at the same time. – Frank
  • Dan Panosian is absolutely doing amazing work on this book. It has boxing, Vegas, and a crime story all wrapped into one. With Panosian doing both the art and the story, it really is pushing forth a singular vision of the highest quality that is rarely seen in comics. – Robert

Star Wars Adventures: Forces Of Destiny Rey #1

  • Leia and tauntauns was so much fun last week! I’m looking forward to Rey. Here’s hoping for creatures too! – Anelise
  • The Leia one of these one-shots was such a great story last week. Here is hoping that the Rey one is just as good. – Greg

X-Men Gold Annual #1

  • A reunion of the original Excalibur team! Need I say more? – Frank
  • Excalibur reunion? Yes, please! – Greg

Anelise‘s Picks

Mech Cadet Yu #5
I love this robot sci-fi story! I’m excited to see where it goes next.

Old Man Hawkeye #1
I have no idea what to expect, but I’m excited for an Old Man Hawkeye run!

Frank’s Picks

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #78
Month in, month out, TMNT is one of the most solid books on the market.

Greg‘s Picks

Phoenix Resurrection: The Return Of Jean Grey #3
Another Rosenberg book. He is telling what is sure to be a classic X-Men story. So many questions as to what is happening here, yet I am hooked.

Witchblade #2
Issue one did such a good job setting up the foundation for the continuation of Witchblade.

Josh‘s Pick

Pestilence #6
The finale to a story about Dark Ages Zombies and the Bubonic Plague!

Robert‘s Picks

Avengers #675
A weekly comic about the Avengers doesn’t initially interest me. But, with looking at the writers involved–Zubb, Waid, and Ewing–I can’t turn away. And, hearing Zubb talk about this book on Word Balloon changed my mind. I’m in!

Mister Miracle #6
Listen, if my reviews of this book aren’t enough to convince you to buy this book, then I don’t know what will. This series is the best book coming out. Gerads and King are doing the work of their lives on this book.

Wildstorm: Michael Cray #4
While the art on this book isn’t my favorite thing ever, the story is great. In an alternate DCU, Michael Cray is hunting those who are on the wrong side of the law. The last arc was Green Arrow; this arc is Flash. I like this series a lot and hope we get to see all 12 issues.

Stacy‘s Picks

Battlestar Galactica Vs Battlestar Galactica #1
Sackhoff vs. Benedict! Greene vs. Olmos! Written by Peter David?! Take. My. Money.

Ninjak Vs The Valiant Universe #1
Remember how I keep saying Ninjak is awesome? You guys: NINJAK IS AWESOME.

Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #28
Squirrel Girl is joy in comics form. What more needs to be said?

Graphic Novels

Black Lightning Year One TP
Cully Hamner and Jan Van Meter absolutely crush on this story. And, if you missed it before, here’s your chance! – Stacy

Cowboy Ninja Viking Deluxe Edition TP
An assassin with multiple personality disorder has the skills and personalities of a cowboy, ninja, and a viking. It’s a hilarious book with some amazing art. – Josh

Descender Volume 5: Rise Of The Robots TP
Every time I read a new volume of this book, I bawl my eyes out, but I am on the very edge of my seat. This book has amazing characters and amazing art! – Hafsa

Hellboy And The B.P.R.D. 1954 TP
While the current Hellboy stories have gotten quite epic, these flashback tales are great too, telling stories of a younger Hellboy learning the ropes as a BPRD agent. Lots of great art and fun storytelling to be found in these volumes. – Stacy

Incredible Hulk Epic Collection Volume 21: Fall Of The Pantheon TP
Peter David’s work on the Incredible Hulk is a masterclass on comics storytelling. – Stacy

Injustice Gods Among Us Year Three The Complete Collection TP
While I generally dislike the “Beware the Superman” trope, Injustice has consistently told amazing stories featuring heroes gone wrong. Check it out. – Stacy

Jem And The Holograms Infinite TP
I am a Jem Girl all the way: I loved the cartoon, and now I’m loving the comics!  -Hafsa

Mage Book Two The Hero Defined Volume 3 TP
Matt Wagner’s Mage is amazing. It’s urban fantasy with some amazing character beats and great artwork. Run, don’t walk. – Stacy

Mech Cadet Yu Volume 1: Discover Now TP
I have no idea what this story is about, but I saw a sci-fi narrative with robots. I’m super excited to read this. – Hafsa
