Hello dear book clubbers!
We had our first ever #RPBookClub chat on Monday this week and it was SO MUCH FUN! It was so cool to see all of your responses to our questions. You all put so much thought into your responses and I can’t thank you enough.
As we promised earlier this month, we’re going to be sharing our favorite replies here!
First, we started things with a poll…
First thing's first, what's your Hogwarts house? #RPBookClub
— Rogues Portal (@RoguesPortal) July 24, 2017
It looks like most of you are in Ravenclaw! I’d believe it.
Our first question asked about your favorite sarcastic lines…

A1 So easy! "No, thanks," said Harry. "The toilet's never had anything as horrible as your head down it— it might be sick." #RPBookClub ?⚡️? https://t.co/48DWy4Zjkz

And then we got into some harder topics – like if the Dursleys really were the best guardians for Harry…
…wanted to he could have set something up to protect him.
— Elizabeth ? (@semisweetrubix) July 24, 2017
This question also resulted in Samantha rec’ing her favorite Harry Potter fanficiton.
Here’s @theverbalthing’s Happy Childhood Harry fan fiction rec for interested parties! #RPBookClub https://t.co/FrJwYGHp5p
— Rogues Portal (@RoguesPortal) July 24, 2017
Then we got into where the Sorcerer’s Stone movie failed us as fans…
#RPBookClub A3: the commentary of the Quidditch Games by Jordan and the way McGonagall shouts at him – that's so much fun in the books
— Christoph Staffl (@comicesque) July 24, 2017
And used hindsight to think about Scabbers the “Rat”…
@RoguesPortal #RPBookClub Q4 this part really stood out to me on reread and I think?? he sees it as fighting back for Harry??
— Elizabeth ? (@semisweetrubix) July 24, 2017
Thought long and hard about how different it is reading Harry Potter as adults…
Q6 It’s really obvious that Quirrell is suspicious af! I didn’t notice it as much when I was a kid because Snape was so greasy. #RPBookClub https://t.co/ytK3rNGhcc
— Samantha Puc (@theverbalthing) July 24, 2017
A6 as a kid, I fell hook-line-and-sinker for Snape as a baddie! he's so awful to the kids it just made sense! #RPBookClub https://t.co/6EX35N5g3F
— reed (@armustdie) July 24, 2017
#RPBookClub I read the books the first time at 26 years old, so I was really glad that Quirrell got his a. kicked by Snape – well deserved..
— Christoph Staffl (@comicesque) July 24, 2017
Considered the fact that our favorite characters can be fallible…
#RPBookClub A7: tbh, I didn't really think about it, but if he is, maybe against Hermione, before they become friends.
— Christoph Staffl (@comicesque) July 24, 2017
A7 Honestly, yes. Ron grows up A LOT throughout the series but is so, so unkind to Hermione in this book. #RPBookClub https://t.co/sqSUVnfJ8U
— Samantha Puc (@theverbalthing) July 24, 2017
Shouted out to our favorite teachers…
Binns! – just kidding. I kind of like Snape, because no one knows what he is up to, really. Always underestimating him.
— Christoph Staffl (@comicesque) July 24, 2017

But also considered that Hogwarts… might actually not be a great place to learn…
A9 … I mean, no. There’s a three-headed dog guarding an uber-powerful immortality elixir in the third floor corridor. So. No. #RPBookClub https://t.co/SxfgF54N2h

I have no idea how hogwarts is supposed to be he safest place when wizard hitler shows up IN BOOK ONE to teach the students DADA
— Elizabeth ? (@semisweetrubix) July 24, 2017
It's at least as good as Xavier's School for the Gifted. I wonder if there's a comparison of student longevity anywhere. #RPBookClub
— Hesster56 (@hesster56) July 24, 2017
Debated if Dumbledore was good or bad, even just in book one…
#RPBookClub He is like a pendulum. One moment wise, clever and sympathetic and the other moment, not so much…
— Christoph Staffl (@comicesque) July 24, 2017
virtually no check ins for eleven years. Ms Fig is not a reasonable replacement for child protective services!!
— Elizabeth ? (@semisweetrubix) July 24, 2017
And closed out the chat with our favorite Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone moment…
A11 The best part of this book then and now is when Hagrid tells Harry he’s a wizard, and Harry gets to finally feel wanted. #RPBookClub https://t.co/av4eVPi0kt

Thank you all SO MUCH for making our first #RPBookClub a success! You’ll hear from me, Reed, again on the first of August introducing you to our next book!
