In Bethesda Studios’ latest blog update, they broke the news that the Nintendo Switch port of The Elder Scrolls: Blades would be delayed until early 2020.

The delay comes on the heels of changes and updates to the Blades gaming system. Update 1.5 will result in the removal of chest timers and an overhaul of the loot system — a change that will surely please a lot of players. Player vs Player is also finally getting introduced in the game’s Arena mode. This feature will be made available to players at level 5, though PVP is limited to one-on-one in the Arena. When the Switch port is finally released, PVP will also include cross-play between mobile and Switch gamers. Finally, the latest update will allow the creation of Guilds, and with it, the ability to trade and visit the towns of other players.

Our early access review of Blades saw the mobile version as a simple iteration of a much better game, but this update is the first positive step towards creating a better experience.

Blades Update 1.5 is expected to be released in early December.

Author’s Note: This is also a good time to remember not to attack a studio because of a game delay. Video games are hard work and take time. Delays can mean that the staff can enjoy holidays and not work grueling hours to meet an unrealistic deadline. So before you express your disappointment to Bethesda, think about the faces behind the games you love and how this can benefit both developers and the players.
