When Marvel announced that they would be doing a Runaways television show, everyone was surprised, but happy! The show will premiere on Hulu, expanding the MCU from Netflix over to a different company.
Runaways, created by Brian K. Vaughan (W) and Adrian Alphona (A), tells the story of when six teenagers find out that their parents are not exactly the most boring people on the planet. It turns out that they’re villains. The kids, who were childhood friends, have to reunite in order to take their parents down once and for all.
The brilliant part of the comic was the cast. Everyone waited in anticipation of who would play these teenagers and now we finally have our answer. So, without further ado, let’s meet the cast!
Alex Wilder
Alex Wilder, the son of a mob boss and a child prodigy, will be played by Rhenzy Feliz. A guy who is masterful in planning and strategic thinking. He plays as the leader of the Runaways.
Nico Minoru
Nico Minoru will be played by Lyrica Okano. Nico’s the daughter of dark wizards. She’s described as a “budding Wiccan”, which I’m super excited to see. She’s gothic and plays upon that image to separate herself from society. She’s also a super powerful wilder in manipulating magic as well.
Karolina Dean
Karolina Dean, the daughter of alien invaders, discovers that she too is an alien. Described as having a “model-perfect exterior with a lot going on behind her professionally whitened smile.” Virginia Gardner will be playing our solar-powered flying alien who is perfect on the outside, but she needs to explore herself before she can truly be happy.
Molly Hernandez
Molly Hernandez, originally Molly Hayes and one of my personal favorites, is the daughter of telepathic mutants. She has the ability to be super strong and has invulnerability. WHICH IS THE COOLEST THING EVER. (Sorry, got carried away, I just… *clinches fist* love mutants.) Molly will be played by Allegra Acosta.
Gert Yorkes
Gert Yorkes (who doesn’t love that name?!), is described as “a purple-haired, bespectacled, contemporary riot grrrl.” *swoon* Gert will be played by Ariela Barer. The daughter of time travelling criminals. She will have a telepathic link with a genetically-engineered dinosaur named Old Lace with Chase Stein.
Chase Stein
Chase Stein, played by Gregg Sulkin, is your typical pretty boy. Described as a “lacrosse-playing, high school heartthrob”, but underneath that is something completely different. He’s on the verge of becoming a great engineer and as the son of mad scientists, he definitely has a big advantage. In the Runaways, Chase steals his dad’s gauntlets called “the Fistigons.”
This cast already looks crazy amazing and fantastic! Hulu hasn’t announced a date for the when Runaways will be coming out, but looking at the cast and everyone attached, it feels like it will be worth the wait!
