Who is Voyager? A simple question asked by Marvel in its latest tease for Marvel Legacy #1. The image accompanying the question is a new character, who has yet to be identified as a hero or villain in the Marvel Universe.

And really, within the comic book universe, there is never a simple question.

The name Voyager has been used twice within the Marvel Universe already.

One of the first incidents came in a mysterious entity. According to the entity itself, it came from a place called Cascade, which is where all the different Marvel Universes connect. Some perceive this place as Heaven. The entity’s goal was to escape its hellish existence and ascend from the exile it had been placed in.

The second version of Voyager is affiliated with the Imperial Guard of the Shi’ar Empire. Later, Voyager quit his post as part of the Shi’ar Imperial Guard to seek out revenge against The Stranger who had held him in captivity for several years.

Based on the picture in Marvel’s most recent tease, it is obvious that this new Voyager is neither of the two other versions.

However, both have connections to current events in the Marvel Universe. The current Marvel Universe is going through a bit of a transition with characters jumping from one universe to another. Jane Foster is currently fighting against the Shi’ar Empire over in The Mighty Thor.

So the question remains….Who is Voyager?

Popular theories running around the internet include Marvel bringing in Ayesha from the popular Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Or could she be a new version of The Goddess? Perhaps Jane Foster transcends to something more if she does indeed succumb to her cancer.

One thing is for sure: we’ll have to wait for Marvel Legacy #1 to find out.
