Two New Cast members set to join Gotham!
Now that the networks have announced what shows are coming back for the fall we have started to enter the time period where casting news starts to heat up in advance of taping for fall premiers starting. Gotham became the latest to make an announcement about casting decisions with the recasting of an established character and the addition of a relative of a much loved character.
In the first piece of news Clare Foley who played Ivy Pepper, 14, has been replaced by Maggie Geha, 28. The change in actresses was made necessary because of a change in the direction with the character. As fans of the show know at the end of last season the patients of Indian Hill were last seen being set free into Gotham as Dr. Hugo Strange’s questionable experiments were uncovered and shut down. It seems that Ivy is going to have a run in with one of these monsters that will result in her being reborn older and in control of her powers as the villain Poison Ivy.
The change in the character should have some very interesting effect on a couple of the characters. First, seeing another person that he has gotten to know be effected indirectly by Hugo Strange could help to drive Bruce Wayne to work harder to stop what he sees as injustice in Gotham. The changes in her long time friend could have a major impact of Selina Kyle. This would be yet another person she has been close to and tried to protect in the past that has been affected in this new criminal element within Gotham.
In other casting news Jamie Chung has been added as new character Valerie Vale. The name may sound familiar to those familiar with the Batman universe as the character is the Aunt to Vicki Vale, played most famously in 1989s Batman movie by Kim Basinger. Very little has been revealed about the nature of the role, other than she will be a recurring character, whom is a reporter investigating many of the happenings with Indian Hill from last season. Adding the aunt of a very famous member of the Batman mythos creates an easy transition to adding Vicki later in the series if show runners want without changing her origin story.
Gotham is schedule to return to Fox for season 3 on September 19, 2016 at 8pm
