A Review by Greg Brothers

Let’s get one thing out of the way before I get into Ghostbusters: Answer the Call #1: I enjoyed the reboot of the movie starring these four characters that came out last year. Was it perfect? No. But it was a lot better than Ghostbusters 2.

Ghostbusters: Answer the Call #1 picks up with the ladies already on the scene of a call. The ladies are trying to capture a ghost child. After what seems like a relatively easy capture of the spirit, the team finds out there is more at play.

When a comic book is based on a preexisting franchise that I have enjoyed, it is important to me that the author is able to match the voices of the characters. Kelly Thompson does an excellent job of doing that here. The dialogue is fast paced as the characters constantly bounce one-liners off each other. Much like the movie, Patty and Holtzmann stand out the most: Patty with her no nonsense and understanding that kids are the worst kind of ghosts to encounter; Holtzmann for her quirkiness of all the new toys she has been creating.

The art is clean, and the designs are true to the movie. The ghosts are creepy but not truly scary in any way. All the characters are bright and enchanting. Holtzmann’s expressions throughout the book are unique and tell an exceptional story on their own.

Verdict:
Buy it!
If you were a fan of the new movie, then Ghostbusters: Answer the Call #1 will be perfect for you. It transports you back to the universe and expands on the characters. The characters are true, and the story is entertaining.
