Funko Friday: Daenerys + Drogon

I’ve been eyeing up this Daenerys & Drogon Funko Pop for a while now. I’ll be honest, and I know some of you are going to hate me, even loathe me for this but… I have never watched an episode of Game Of Thrones and I do not plan to in the near future either. Soz. To be fair I don’t really need to watch any episodes, I already know what’s happening in the series thanks to Facebook spoilers!

Background
Queen Daenerys Targaryen, who is also known as Daenerys Stormborn, is a major protagonist in the Game of Thrones series, appearing in all six series of the show. She is played by the ever-so lovely British actress Emilia Clarke and makes her grand debut in the series premiere. She is the younger sister of Rhaegar Targaryen and Viseryes Targaeryn. She is the youngest child of King Aerys II Targaryen and Queen Rhaella Targaryen, who were both ousted from the Iron Throne during Robert’s Rebellion by Robert Baratheon.

 

Character
As I stated above I haven’t seen Game of Thrones but I’ve heard the Daenerys is a badass. I didn’t want to write this post without having seen evidence of this so-called badassery, so Dan showed me a clip from Season 6 episode 9 ‘Battle of the Bastards’, where she and her three dragons start setting a load of boats on fire. On first impression…meh. Personally she doesn’t come across as strong and confident, she actually appears quite timid. Not what I personally would describe as a strong female lead.

HOWEVER!! BEFORE YOU DRAG THROUGH THE MUD KEYBOARD WARRIORS, I decided to do some research into Daenerys’ personality, because I know you cannot judge a character by two minutes of viewing.

She is described as ” polite and well-spoken, but filled with quiet determination. She is still somewhat naive of the world due to being young and living her life as an exile (with only her petulant brother to rely on for knowledge), but she is intelligent and quick to understand now that she is free to pursue her own path.” In other words, she is a badass but not a total dick about it.

The Funko Pop
This is the biggest Funko Pop I own! It’s 4 inches of complete badass! The dragon looks absolutely amazing and is incredibly detailed. There are other Funko Pop variations of Daenerys but this is, by far, the coolest in terms of her Dragon. It’s quite menacing to look at and is not as ‘animated’ as other pops. He looks ferocious. Of course, he sits well on any surface and she sits very well on top of him. They made it seem as if she’s flying by the way they’ve designed her dress. Daernerys makes a cute little Funko Pop and I love her hair. She definitely joining my Funko Pop gurl gang collection.
