Hentai Kamen Review

You know that film that catches your eye with how bizarre and fun it looks? The one with the insane cover and plot that you just HAVE to buy just to see if it’s as crazy as it looks and sounds? Well, Hentai Kamen was that film for me. Nothing could prepare me for this film, not even the cover or the description.

Plot
Teenager Kyosuke Shikijo wants to be a hero, just like father who was a police officer. When he comes to foil a bank robbery to win the heart of his school friend, the only means he has of concealing his identity to put a pair of women’s knickers on his head. This triggers his transformation into Hentai Kamen a.k.a Pervert Mask. He discovers that female underwear bring him amazing superpowers!

I’m going to be completely honest with you, I have not read the manga, so unfortunately I cannot tell you if the live-action replicates the manga as well as it should. On a positive note, the film makes me want to see if the manga is just as fantastic as the film. This is clearly the Asian Deadpool, just a bit less antihero. Out superhero has every power going for him, each one more insane than the last. The more powers he introduced, the more I thought ‘He literally has no limitations, he’s the Avengers rolled into one’.

I feel in the middle of the film it went of on a slight tangent, especially once they began introducing us to the villains, but in some bizarre way, the story line flows nicely with rigid structure, and with some unusual depth to it. If something doesn’t make sense in the film, it’ll surely give you an answer. The film is brilliant when it comes to tying up loose ends.

The characters are all so likeable in Hentai Kamen, even the most depraved villains have their weird charm. Our main protagonist is such weird, awkward, and yet adorable while our heroine is such a sweetie!! The acting is just wonderful, especially the mother, so over the top and dramatic and yet so funny. You can tell the cast were having so much fun with this film. They take their parts so seriously, regardless of the ridiculousness of the scenario. From Hentai Kamen transforming and fighting crime for the first time,  to him dressing as a lady to try and buy some underwear, it’s all done with solid acting.

Right, I am more than willing to admit that Mr Kamen is pleasing to the eye and the fanservice in this film will leave a lot of young fangirls very happy.

This film is most certainly worth a watch! I loved it! It’s fun, it’s full of energy, it’s a refreshing film from the superhero franchise. It will leave you saying ‘What on Earth did i just watch?!’ And it now has a sequel I’m sooo happy about that!!!
