EVO, one of the worlds largest annual fighting game tournaments, just announced it’s line up for 2017!

Eight games were announced for this year’s tournament, including four new games. The four returning games are Street Fighter V, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, and Tekken 7. New games to be played are Guilty Gear Xrd REV2, Injustice 2, BlazBlue: Central Fiction and The King of the Fighters XIV. The ninth game for the tournament will be determined by a donation based vote for Make-A-Wish Foundation International on Generosity.com, and be voted on from the following list:

  • Pokkén Tournament
  • Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3
  • Killer Instinct
  • Mortal Kombat XL
  • Skullgirls 2nd Encore
  • Super Street Fighter II Turbo
  • Nidhogg
  • ARMS
  • Windjammers

As of this writing, the Pokémon based brawler on Wii U, Pokkén Tournament, is leading with Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3 not far behind. Donations for the community vote close on February 8th, so make a donation for a great cause and see some great games being played to honor Make-A-Wish Foundation International.

This is a huge event every year, and it just seems to be getting bigger and bigger. Capcom always makes its presence known, usually showing off a trailer for an upcoming game during the finals. We will probably see some new footage of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite that weekend, in addition to what ever Microsoft has planned for Killer Instinct: Season 4. Injustice 2 will be fun to watch, as that game will only be out for about 2 months before EVO 2017. Expect some DLC characters for the DC fighter to be announced as well.

It will be interesting to see who wins the community vote, especially given the wide variety of games in that list. Will the Switch exclusive ARMS make its EVO 2017 debut? If Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 wins which version will they use since the game just got re-released for PS4 and will be out on the Xbox One and PC at that point? Would Pokkén Tournament show up despite the Wii U’s descent into irrelevance?

EVO 2017 runs from July 14-16 in Las Vegas Nevada. GET HYPE!!
