Everything Will Be Okay #1 is the first of a five-issue limited series that tells the story of what happens to Earth as all natural disasters begin to occur daily. However, this issue begins after the culmination of these cataclysmic, earth-destroying events. At the end, the writer promises the following issue will tell the story that precedes all this mayhem.

Everything Will Be Okay#1 focuses on sibling engineers, Anya and Edgar, aboard the space station carrying the last of humanity. As they investigate an emergency, we find that if everything will, in fact, be okay, it won’t be right away. I like that they started the story where they did, and that they reveal that everything isn’t okay just yet. However, it concerns me that they may be trying to tell too much story in just five issues. I mean, I want lots and lots of pages of destruction and mayhem.

The siblings’ relationship is a highlight. Wilson does a nice job of making the dialogue between them natural and genuine. In spite of taking place solely aboard the space station, the pacing is great.

Vargas’ art really stands out. His use of thick lines on the characters juxtaposes nicely with the more roughly lined backgrounds. Hunter’s use of color really accentuated the art with lots of bright, vibrant pops of color. Without spoiling anything, I will just say that a certain green-filled page was especially striking. I didn’t have many gripes with the lettering, although certain word balloons could have benefited from a smaller font size.

Verdict:

Wait and see. It pains me to say it, but I think the next issue will help or hurt the story moving forward. I found the lack of catastrophic action disappointing. However, Vargas’ art gives you enough of a taste as to what he might have in store. Bring on the disasters!
