No one is ever gone from comics for too long. It used to said that the only people who stay dead in comics were Uncle Ben and Bucky, but even that’s not sacred anymore, not since Bucky’s return in Winter Soldier.

We often also see characters take over well-known hero monikers whether it’s when Dick Grayson became Batman for a time, Stephanie Brown or Cassandra Cain becoming Batgirl, or the numerous incarnations of Robin. This doesn’t just happen in the Bat-family either. We’ve seen a few different versions of The Flash over the years between Barry Allen, Wally West, and Jay Garrick.

As of late, DC has been teasing that a former popular character and fan-favourite might be making a return to comics sometime in the near future. You could probably get a pool going to guess who it might be at one of the best online casinos.

It’s no coincidence that we mentioned characters from the Bat-family and The Flash. As mentioned, someone is returning to the current funnypages and it seems like that reunion between character and fan will happen in the upcoming Batman/Flash crossover book, Batman #21, being written by Tom King and Joshua Williamson. The issue is set to come out on April 19 of this year and will kick-off a four-part arc called “The Button” which is a reference to the iconic smiley face button from Alan Moore’s Watchmen.

The synopsis for the book is as follows: The cataclysmic events of DC UNIVERSE: REBIRTH #1 continue here! The Dark Knight and The Fastest Man Alive, the two greatest detectives on any world, unite to explore the mystery behind a certain blood-stained smiley button embedded in the Batcave wall. What starts as a simple investigation turns deadly when the secrets of the button prove irresistible to an unwelcome third party—and it’s not who anyone suspects! It’s a mystery woven through time, and the ticking clock starts here!

And the character that’s being teased to make a comeback? None other than Jay Garrick, who we last saw on the TV adaptation of The Flash alongside Barry Allen. So if you did have a pool going to guess which character would be next to make a comeback and you happened to pick Jay, then I bet you’re feeling pretty good about yourself right now.

See how this all plays out next month in Batman #21!
