Awesome Games Done Quick 2017: Sunday Schedule

Today kicks off the 7th Awesome Games Done Quick, a speedrunning marathon that runs non-stop all week to collect money for charity. This year, they’ll be contributing all donations to the Prevent Cancer Foundation and we can expect a good turnout, with last year’s donations totaling $1,216,304 over the course of the entire week!

Donations can be made in any increment, usually towards a raffle during the run. Raffles are for donated items and can including new consoles and fan made works! Some are read on air during lulls in gameplay, such as loading screens, to a live crowd cheering for larger donations. During each run, the player is joined on stage by other speedrunners who provides commentary to explain glitches, sequence breaks, and more. You can watch Awesome Games Done Quick on twitch, they post all speedruns within a couple days of their completion.

The event always closes with Super Metroid, which contains an optional path at the end of the game to save the animal inhabitants of Zebes. Viewers who donate can vote on the speedrunners saving the animals or killing them by skipping the last section. Other donation votes can be used for various games throughout the run and for things such as picking the name of save files, or even community picked games. Following the passing of Nintendo President Satoru Iwata last year, most save files were named after him due to the community donations.
