Review by Greg Brothers

When we last visited Earth and The Hole World in Curse Words #12, things were getting a little crazy. Margaret was being held captive by some sort of military group. Meanwhile Ruby and Wizord decided to put aside their differences long enough to try and figure out what happened to their favorite animal-changing friend. Over in The Hole World Jacques Zacques was being helped by the head demon Sizzaje.

Curse Words #13 drops us right into the middle of where we left off in the last issue. Jacques is getting used to some of his new powers and what it means to be Sizzajee’s favorite. Wizord and Ruby finish up a personal meeting to head back out to find their friend Margaret. Unfortunately, for the rest of the world, frustrations from the power couple lead to some unexpected weather.

The interactions between Wizord and Ruby feel spot on for on-again-off-again lovers. There is a familiarity that is there with a tension that would be expected. Their actions throughout would be about what you would expect from a couple of wizards looking for their friends. Curse Words #13 feels as if the entire issue is setting up for one big end. And with the last few panels we get that big end that leaves you both satisfied and wanting to come back next month for the consequences.

From the beginning, Soule and Browne have been dropping small hints to an overall larger theme. Here there are a couple of mentions that feel like they are part of a larger story. It has been entertaining connecting those dots while knowing that they continue to add another layer to the storytelling.

Browne’s art continues to impress in Curse Words #13. The bright colors and the over-the-top art continues to draw the eyes into the panels.

Verdict: Buy it.

If you are not reading this series, you really are missing out. Curse Words #13 continues the streak of excellence from this team.
