Since I’m Canadian and had my Thanksgiving at an actually reasonable distance from Christmas, American Thanksgiving is MST3K Turkey Day to me. A day that Shout Factory, Joel Hodgson, and guests stream a selection of classic Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes with fittingly low-fi host segments in-between.

I assume that this year a few people were watching the Turkey Day stream hoping for news of a Netflix renewal. Well, they were in luck! If they stuck around after the feed ended, there were two commercials aired. In an extremely on-brand bit of impishness, the announcement came after the stream proper, preceded by a ‘Breaking News’ graphic.

No real details were released, we just know that Netflix is producing another series. The current Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return cast is Jonah Ray as Jonah Heston, Felicia Day as Kinga Forrester, Patton Oswalt as Max (TV’s Son of TV’s Frank), Rebecca Hanson as the vice of Gypsy, Hampton Yount as the voice of Crow T. Robot, and Baron Vaughn as the voice of Tom Servo.

Season 11, returning after being off-air since 1999, was able to attract a number of guest stars and guest writers. People like Dan Harmon, Justin Roiland, Kate Micucci, and Eugene Cordero provided jokes and Jerry Seinfeld, Mark Hamill, Neil Patrick Harris, and the majority of the original series cast all provided cameos. There’s no word on who will be returning, but presumably, the main cast, Joel Hodgson, and season 11’s head writer Elliot Kalan will spearhead season 12.

Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return is available on Netflix, and various episodes of the original series are available on Shout Factory TV.
