Hurricane Harvey Relief

Comics, video games, and movies are great, but sometimes the real world rears its ugly head and interrupts the things that we love. Hurricane Harvey has hit the Houston and Louisiana areas incredibly hard, and relief is needed for the millions whose lives have taken a turn for the worst.

This weekend, Games Done Quick will be hosting a Hurricane Harvey Relief event on their Twitch channel, starting Friday at 8 p.m. EST and ending on Sunday at 8 p.m. EST. This two day event will have speedrunners doing what they can to help raise money for a currently unknown charity. The organizers of Games Done Quick are trying to partner with a boots-on-the-ground operation in Houston, and have yet to name who they will be sponsoring.

This year Games Done Quick has raised over $4 million total between Awesome Games Done Quick and Summer Games Done Quick. Awesome Games Done Quick supports the Prevent Cancer Foundation, while Summer Games Done Quick raises money for Doctors Without Borders. In 2011 they ran a special marathon titled Japan Relief Done Quick, raising $25,000 for the victims of the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami.

If you cannot donate this weekend to Games Done Quick, I highly recommend you find a charity worth supporting. As always, remember to do your research on the charity of your choice to make sure the people who need help are actually getting it.
