I’m so happy I have the pleasure of reviewing not one, but two Archie Comics this week.
Jughead #9 made me giggle like an idiot.
After Archie and Jughead get through the summer, the gang finds themselves back in school and it’s so great to be back at Riverdale High. However, there’s a new addition to Pop’s Diner that Jughead doesn’t notice at first. It takes the form of a new Burger Lady mascot and Jughead is absolutely smitten. While he tries to figure out what his feelings are about. Burger Lady, in an attempt to get to know people in Riverdale and has come to like Jughead, asks him on a date. He goes into full panic mode. As the gang prepares him for the date of his life, this Burger Lady isn’t all she’s cut out to be. She turns out to be a special guest to the New Riverdale and this special guest is…. Sabrina, the Teenage Witch.
There’s so much good in this issue of Jughead. I don’t know where to begin. Ryan North takes the role of writer for the series and they couldn’t have gotten a better person. Ryan isn’t only funny, but he knows how to write these characters in their own perspective characters. While reading, I couldn’t get a smile off of my face, from the dialogue itself and then from his comments on the bottom of every page. Ryan picks up exactly where Chip left off and somehow makes this comic even better.
Derek Charm continues to shine within this issue. His art was seriously made for New Riverdale, especially within this new Jughead series. This team between Derek and Ryan was a great and happy surprise. These two compliment each other in the best of ways and make the comic ten times funnier with their combined forces. it’s gonna be one hell of a ride with both of them working on Jughead and I’m along for the ride.
Verdict:
BUY IT. I’ve been really excited for these next few Jughead comics because not only is Ryan North taking the helm as the new writer for Jughead, but Sabrina, the Teenage f*cking Witch is interacting with Jughead!!! *screams loudly*
