75th Golden Globe Awards Predictions
The 75th Golden Globe Awards air this Sunday at 8 P.M. Eastern, hosted by Seth Meyers. As far as awards shows go, it’s a bit of a joke. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association likes to invite famous people and spread the wealth, awarding the art they like the best is a secondary concern.
It is, however, entertaining television. Because the HFPA loves to stroke celebrity egos, they’re able to pack a bunch of them in a room and ply them with liquor all night. It leads to fun or incoherent speeches. Due to their desire to reward people for showing up, there’s usually a variety of winners, which means the proceedings don’t get too repetitive. The downside to this is that they’re not a great predictor the Academy Awards, unlike the various Guild awards.
Ultimately, what I’m trying to say, is that predicting the Golden Globes is a crapshoot. With some of the races more wide-open than usual, it’s even harder. The HFPA is a relatively small organization that likes to make headlines (hence Christopher Plummer’s Nomination for All the Money in the World) so that can be a bit of a guiding light. I make absolutely no guarantees about these picks, most of them are guesses based on previous award wins and my psychic ability to get into the mind of a member of the HFPA.
I include guesses for what I think will win, what could win, which of the nominees should win, and an “I wish” category for me to shoutout films that may not have even been nominated.
